I have loved animals, horses in particular, since very young. My father, a cowboy, son of a farrier, grew up in Virginia and taught me a great appreciation for nature. I learned about respecting and valuing all animals and preserving our beautiful wilderness. Living in Oregon there is a vast array of wildlife that inspires me.

My family was dysfunctional, and I was able to escape into my drawings for peace.

My mother found it impossible to find art schools for children, I was 12. She enrolled me in the Adult Education Center in Los Angeles. There began my art education.

Oil painting and drawing with charcoal is mostly what interests me today. Not much has changed over the years. The style has varied but my love of detail remains because it allows me to capture the essence of my subject. I sketch in charcoal and paint over it often leaving strong charcoal marks, this has made my art move toward a more free-flowing expression. I often use the old masters technique of wiping off the paint. With charcoal I often use my fingers to create various effects, especially when drawing fur.

Horses have been my major inspiration and remain so today. Their beauty, strength, and sensitivity are what I translate through my art.
